The 35-year-old man was arrested on June 17 after reports of suitcases being stolen from the parking lot of a hotel in Montpellier. If this fact could not be demonstrated, the accused must however answer for carrying a bladed weapon, using narcotics and insulting a person holding public authority.

On the night of June 16-17, the municipal police were alerted to a theft of suitcases from a car parked in a hotel car park in Montpellier. They arrested two men in possession of the luggage. However, video surveillance did not formally establish the theft, as the vehicle was parked behind a post. A search of the two suspects revealed, however, that one was carrying a knife, and the other, a knife and 20 grams of cannabis resin. Both were brought before the public prosecutor.

The first is left free with a ban on appearing in the area of ​​his arrest. The second was presented to the criminal court on Wednesday June 19. In addition to carrying a weapon and possessing drugs, he is accused of having insulted a police officer in racist and obscene terms, while in custody at the police station. The official filed a complaint.

34 mentions in criminal record

At the hearing, President Julie Marot cited the defendant's criminal record: 34 mentions for theft, narcotics, carrying ;weapon, aggravated violence, between 2005 and 2022. "All that is in the past for me", assured the 35-year-old man, currently on probation . Divorced and father of a child, he explained that he worked on a temporary basis. His lawyer, Me Mathieu Montfort, recalled the journey of his client, "who found himself on the street after the death of his grandmother". "Give him a chance, we must be able to trust him", he asked the court.

At the request of the defendant, the judgment was postponed until July 29. Until then, the man was placed under judicial supervision.
