The tragedies on the trails never end. This Thursday in the Hautes-Pyrénées, a septuagenarian died following a fall in the mountains, reveal our colleagues at La Dépêche.

A fall of unknown origin

The victim had gone hiking towards the Troumouse cirque at an altitude of 2,000 meters earlier in the day, accompanied by his wife.

But for some reason that we still don't know, the septuagenarian lost his balance above the void. He then fell towards the precipice, sliding down a slope of 200 meters.

A witness runs to report the accident

A witness to the scene, alerted by the violence of the fall, turned back to alert the emergency services. Running to the nearby Nunia inn, he was finally able to report the accident.

Rescuers from the Pierrefitte-Nestalas high mountain gendarmerie platoon and a doctor from Samu 65 borrowed a helicopter from the gendarmerie aerial section in order to get to the site as quickly as possible .

But despite their responsiveness, they were unable to resuscitate the victim who was declared dead on the spot before being repatriated.

The site is very popular for walking enthusiasts. Its accessible and bucolic landscapes delight nature lovers every summer.
