He suffers third-degree burns: a child spills boiling tea on himself, the plane is forced to make an emergency U-turn

The little boy was on flight FR2475 from London to Brindisi when he accidentally spilled boiling tea on himself on Tuesday 23 July. The Ryanair plane, which took off at 7:22 a.m., was forced to turn back, reports The Mirror.

Airlifted to safety by helicopter

The child suffered burns so severe that the plane had to make an emergency landing at Allgau Airport in Memmingen, Germany.

Local police said a doctor determined the nine-year-old boy suffered third-degree burns, a type of burn that often requires urgent medical intervention and even skin grafts, according to The Mirror.After being taken off the plane, the nine-year-old was rushed to hospital by helicopter.

The investigation said the boy was scalded “by negligence"

During the incident, a Ryanair spokesperson said: "This flight from Stanstead to Brindisi (July 23) diverted to Memmingen airport due to a medical incident on board. The crew requested medical assistance and the passenger was disembarked for treatment on arrival at Memmingen airport, before the flight continued to Brindisi.

The plane was then able to take off again and landed in Italy at around midday.

A police investigation was launched and found that the incident “was not the fault of a third party” and that the boy “had been scalded through negligence”.

In 2022, Ryanair was fined after a girl burned herself with a boiling drink. The airline maintained that the child was “the author of her own misfortune”.
