A municipal police officer was seriously injured and placed in a coma on Tuesday, August 27 after a road accident while he was chasing a vehicle on a motorcycle that had run a red light in Dammarie-les-Lys (Seine-et-Marne), AFP learned on Wednesday from a police source and the Melun prosecutor's office.
On Tuesday evening, two municipal police officers stationed in Dammarie-les-Lys chased a car that had just run a red light after setting off their horns, a police source reported.
While they were following the car, one of the police officers on a motorcycle was hit by a vehicle that was crossing on a green light. The motorcycle then fell on the officer, causing him serious injuries.
Life in danger
The 36-year-old police officer was airlifted to hospital with a life in danger. Victim of internal bleeding and head trauma, he was placed in an artificial coma.
The alcohol and drug tests on the driver of the car were negative.
The investigation into the accident has been entrusted to the Melun police station, said Melun prosecutor Jean-Michel Bourlès.
On Monday evening, a police officer died after being fatally hit by a motorist who had refused to comply in Mougins (Alpes-Maritimes).
