“He was in a vegetative state for eight years”: Antoine Dupont's intimate confidences on the death of his father

Invited to the Rencontres du Papotin on France 2 this Saturday, October 5, rugby player Antoine Dupont, captain of the French team, spoke without filters on many subjects. He notably discussed his family ties and the difficult death of his father.

Antoine Dupont took part in the Papotin meetings exercise, the France 2 program in which personalities are interviewed by non-professional journalists with autism spectrum disorder. A meeting that prohibits any wooden language and which gives rise to sequences marked by truth and emotion.

The interview with the captain of the French rugby team was no exception to the rule and he spoke frankly about his relationship with his family.

“He passed away last year”

“I am very close to my family and my mother. Since they are not far from Toulouse, I can see them often. It is something that is important to me. My dad passed away last year. He had had a false route. He had been in a vegetative state for eight years. He was in a center. And he died last year,” confided Antoine Dupont, quoted by Le Figaro.

The man who was recently named the best rugby player in the world also spoke in turn about his musical tastes, and said he was single: “I don't have any children. I don't have a girlfriend, because that's life (smile). I don't have a boyfriend either”.

The player also answered a question about homosexuality in sport. "It's still a taboo subject. For example, in professional rugby, we only have one player who has come out. While I think that, statistically, there must still be others”, estimated Antoine Dupont.
