François-Xavier Lauch, prefect of Hérault, was in Pouget and Gignac this Thursday, with the president of the CCVh Jean-françois Soto.

This was already the fourth visit of the prefect of Hérault in three months,"since October 9", appreciates Jean-François Soto, president of the CCVH. This Thursday afternoon, Francois-Xavier Lauch was back in the Hérault Valley which he surveyed, at a running pace, to take the pulse of local developments on two key subjects in the Heart of Hérault: health and water resources, "two absolutely major themes for the action of the State", underlined its Héraultais representative. First stop on his journey, François-Xavier Lauch discovered the company Nereus, based in Pouget. A company at the forefront of water reuse using a membrane filtration process.

A solution of the future… close

"This company has completely amazed me with the avant-garde water treatment technologies that it is developing. When we talk about the extremely precious nature of the resource, its reuse, the ability to use it several times, this filtration system, which consumes little energy, is certainly a solution of the future", measured the prefect.
A near future, because the Pougétoise company will showcase its know-how as part of the Olympics made in France. (See box). Above all, the situation on the resource front remains worrying, "mid-December, we were very strictly in the situation of last August", recalled the State representative.
But the lines are moving at the same time as the standards of use evolve. Certainly, "Yes, we need to go even further. We have six examples of reuse of wastewater treatment plant water in the department, for the moment for limited uses, such as watering the Grande-Motte golf course. […] We are waiting, and the government is committed to this, for the release of two decrees which allow the further use of these waters precisely for the maintenance of spaces green or streets and, in certain contexts, for the agri-food industry. Reut is one of the solutions to climate change and water shortage." Very "lively" on the subject, François-Xavier Lauch and the State services should therefore make it possible to accelerate progress in this direction.

The extension of the Health Center

Second stage, around 4 p.m., the prefect went to the Gignac health center, which will benefit from a logical extension, one year after its inauguration, in an area which still lacks, in particular, doctors. "I am very happy to see that this project will expand with the extension of the building and the upcoming installation of a scanner, a tool very important which is the subject of state authorization, it is big news for Gignac and the interco", appreciated the prefect of Hérault. In addition, the announced installation of an Unscheduled Care Unit should make it possible to “relieve the emergencies of our university hospital, our clinics”, analyzed François Xavier Lauch, before to set off again, still running, to meet the 28 mayors of the Valley…

In the starting blocks for the Olympics

Champion of water reuse, the Pougétoise company Nereus will be there during the Olympics. Indeed, the membrane filtration process developed by the company will be implemented, In Situ, for two concrete applications. "At the Olympics, we are going to do two things that matter. The first, in one of the buildings of the athletes' village, we will recycle the water and, among the uses, we will even have the possibility, experimentally, to show that we can use it in washing machines, we are the first in France to do this", reveals Emmanuel Trouvé, boss of Nereus. Second (re) use, on site, Nereus will extract and “clean” sewer water to "bring it to reusable quality and use this water to irrigate a hundred trees in an island of freshness ."
