Heatwave alert: 16 departments on orange alert, up to 40°C on Sunday… what to expect this weekend ?

For this Saturday, August 10, 2024, sixteen departments are placed on orange alert for heatwaves and thunderstorms and twenty-six on yellow alert. On Sunday, temperatures will reach 40 °C.
The mercury will continue to rise. Maximum temperatures on Saturday will be above 35 °C along the Garonne and Rhône. Languedoc/Roussillon will reach 40 °C. Minimum temperatures will hardly go below 20°C in the Mediterranean and in the Rhône valley.
16 departments on vigilance orange heat wave
While on Friday, six departments in the south of France were on orange alert, today ten more departments are being added to the list of < em>France Weather.

A "heat plume" will warm the south of France, temperatures between 35 °C and 40 °C are expected in the Mediterranean hinterland, in New Aquitaine, in Occitanie and in the Rhone Valley.
Temperatures could drop on Sunday evening, depending on the arrival of storms, which will lower temperatures. This could be the case at the end of the weekend for the Atlantic arc, Monday morning for the northwest and Tuesday for the eastern regions, adds La Chaîne Météo.
