Heatwave, storms: 56 departments now on orange alert this Tuesday… where the phenomena could be the most intense ?

After the heatwave, the storms. Paris, like 10 other departments, has been placed on orange alert for storms, while the Olympic Games are taking place. Météo France is predicting a risk of heavy rain.

Now 56 French departments are on orange alert. This Tuesday July 30, while 45 departments are on heatwave alert, 11 others have been added to this level of alert for risks of storms.

While the Paris Olympic Games are being held in intense heat, this Tuesday evening, the rain, which had invited itself during the opening ceremony, could well make its return. “This evening and in the first part of the night, from the north of the Center to the Île-de-France, a stormy deterioration is likely. In the departments placed on orange alert, there is a significant risk of strong thunderstorms with intense precipitation, hail and gusts of wind", indicates Météo France.

The heatwave alert is still in effect

At the same time, 45 departments are still on orange heatwave alert. "The intense heat will progress towards the north of the country. Temperatures of 35 to 36 °C will be reached or exceeded in a large part of the country, except in the regions of Brittany, Normandy, northern Pays-de-Loire, Hauts-de-France and Grand-Est. The scorching temperatures will continue until at least Wednesday evening”, notes Météo France in its warning bulletin.

The west of Occitanie is also affected by a yellow warning for thunderstorms, like a large part of the territory. This Wednesday, the weather should remain stormy in the northern two-thirds of the country, forecasts Météo France.
