Her granddaughters were waiting for her on the beach: Grandmother found dead in the Mediterranean Sea

Une femme âgée de 74 ans a été retrouvée morte dans la mer Méditerranée, à La Ciotat, dans les Bouches-du-Rhône, samedi 17 août 2024.

She was spotted by other swimmers, quite far from the shore. A man pulled a 74-year-old woman out of the water and gave her first aid before the firefighters arrived, reports BFM.

Despite the rapid intervention of the Sdis 13, the septuagenarian did not survive. Originally from Aubagne, the victim was located outside the bathing area, emergency services said.

The circumstances of her death remain, for the time being, unknown. The victim's two granddaughters were waiting for their grandmother on Lumière beach in La Ciotat when the tragedy occurred, according to Le Parisien.

Two other deaths

Two people have already lost their lives on beaches in the Bouches-du-Rhône department on Sunday, July 28, 2024. One was the victim of drowning, the other of probable sunstroke leading to a fainting spell.
