Here's what awaits Quebecers at the Miami tournament

Félix Auger-Aliassime is about to make his comeback at the Miami tennis tournament, an event where he has enjoyed success in the past. Meanwhile, Leylah Fernandez will try to defeat a tough opponent in the second round.

Since the beginning of his career, the 22-year-old tennis player has made two appearances in the square of ace of a Masters 1000 and one of them was in Miami, in 2019. Auger-Aliassime has since stopped in the third round in 2021 and in the second round the following year.

< p>With a bye for this second leg, the fifth seed is waiting for his opponent on Friday. The winner of the duel between the Brazilian Thiago Monteiro and the Australian Jason Kubler will have the chance to face “FAA”.

On Fernandez's side, she is still in contention after her initial victory against veteran Lesia Tsurenko on Wednesday. Like her compatriot Bianca Andreescu, she overcame her first challenge and now directs her attention to Switzerland's Belinda Bencic. This will be the fifth confrontation between the Lavalloise and the ninth racquet in the world, who have each won two games.

Like Auger-Aliassime, Ontarian Denis Shapovalov will make his comeback on Friday against the Argentinian Guido Pella. Andreescu will cross swords with Maria Sakkari.

The end of a great adventure

In action on Thursday, Katherine Sebov saw her beautiful career in Miami being held back by one of the tournament favourites, American Jessica Pegula. The third seed easily prevailed in the second round in straight sets 6-3, 6-1.

Sebov, 24, emerged from anonymity in the WTA by earning her place in the main draw via qualifying, beating the 92nd player in the world Kamila Rakhimova, then surprising one of the rising stars of women's tennis. The Czech Linda Fruhirtova, 50th despite being 17 years old, folded in the first round in front of the Torontonian.

At 172nd in the rankings, Sebov will climb to 146th in the next update, a personal best.< /p>
