Higher rates of public transport in force in Montreal

Hausse des tarifs des transports en commun en vigueur à Montréal

MONTREAL – tickets for transit agencies will increase as of October 1, 2020 in the greater Montreal area.

This is what has informed on Thursday the regional Authority of metropolitan transport (ARTM) by unveiling its new tariff schedule, which provides for average increases of 2 %.

On the other hand the price of the securities unit will not change. “The ARTM has decided not to index the securities unit, which are used more in this period of teleworking and post-containment “, one can read in a press release.

This will be the case for the rate 1 passage/with exo, the réseau de transport de Longueuil, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) and the Société de transport de Laval, as well as title 1 crossing with TRAM and TRAIN.

Note that the indexing of the rates, normally provided on the 1st of July, had been postponed until 1 October because of the health crisis.

Thus, in the case of Société de transport de Montréal (STM), the regular fare for 1 passage remains at 3.50 while the monthly will be $ 88,50 $ instead of at 86.50 $. The monthly rate for the number 1 TRAM will cost 102 $ as of October 1, or $ 2 more than it currently is.

In addition, the ARTM will enrich its offering with two new titles-metropolitan unlimited “unlimited Evening” (18 h in the evening to 5 a.m. the next morning, by bus, train and metro, at $ 5.50 and “Weekend unlimited” (Friday 16 pm to Monday, 5 a.m., by bus, train and metro, to 14.25 $).

They allow users to “move at affordable prices in all modes of collective transport and the whole of the metropolitan territory, a first in the region”.
