House of Justice and Law in Bagnols-sur-Cèze: a “quality establishment” that is increasingly in demand

The head of the MJD of Bagnols presented the 2023 activity report this Thursday, February 8. Access to law is up 17% thanks to the availability of professionals, associations and institutional actors.

The House of Justice and Law (MJD) ensures a local judicial presence and participates in the prevention of delinquency, assistance to victims and # 39;access to law. In Bagnols, it is located in the Escanaux district. Maddy Boumahmoud, clerk, has been responsible since 2018. Thursday February 8, she presented the 2023 activity report in the presence of Mathias Nieps, sub-prefect, local elected officials, legal professionals, associations and institutional actors.

"A house that works very well"

In 2023, access to the law increased by 17%. "It's a quality establishment with extremely pleasing dynamism", comments Claire Gadat, president of the departmental council for access to law (CDAD) . Same story from Mayor Jean-Yves Chapelet. "We have a house that works very well. It's important to emphasize this because it hasn't always been the case."

Several offices with different services are offered to the public. Lawyers from the Nîmes bar provide free legal consultations on Friday afternoons. Family law and labor law are their main areas of intervention. 52 consultations were carried out in 2023 for 456 interventions, i.e. 6% more in one year.

"The permanence of Adil is a success"

The Gard Victim Support Association (Agavip) ​​guides and assists victims of criminal offenses in their procedures. 50 interviews were carried out in 2023, or 12 more than the previous year. The departmental housing information agency (Adil) is also increasingly requested. "The permanence of Adil at the MJD in Bagnols is a success. There are a lot of people , explains Anne-Charlotte Delchambre, lawyer. 202 interviews were carried out in 2023, or 60 more than the previous year.

The Information Center on Women and Family Law (CIDFF) supports the public in matters of domestic violence and family law. "74% of requests relate to domestic violence", indicates the director. If 34 meetings were set for 2023, only 24 were made. "People don't necessarily come", regrets- her.

TIG carried out in the green spaces department

The Prison Integration and Probation Service (Spip), responsible for ensuring sentence enforcement measures, is represented by two advisors to the MJD. A "focus" is made on work of general interest (TIG). "We collaborate with the green spaces department of the  town hall", indicates the director of Spip. And sometimes there are "beautiful stories" as the mayor told it. "We have someone who did a TIG a while ago. It went well and today we are going to offer him a fixed-term contract." The two advisors would like to be supported by a third person. "It wouldn't be luxury. The question of human resources cannot be overlooked."

In the 2024 projects, Maddy Boumahmoud would like to renew the actions with students in schools to present to them access to the law and the functioning of the MJD.
