"L’Arbre à palabres" a ouvert ses portes le 3 août, dans le village de Colombières-sur-Orb, dans l’arrière-pays biterrois. Il propose un espace unique mêlant littérature et convivialité, où détente et nouvelles découvertes sont au rendez-vous.
In the middle of the mountains and forests of the Béziers hinterland, a new brand is emerging in symbiosis with the serenity of the surrounding nature: on August 3, Colombières-sur-Orb saw the birth of a new establishment that combines literature and conviviality: the bookstore-café “L’Arbre à palabres". Located in the very center of this small village in the high cantons, this independent shop stands out for its original concept and its commitment to the local community.
Both a reading space and a place to relax, it has quickly become a favorite meeting point for residents and visitors. “The idea is really to offer a friendly and exchangeable place”, explains Chloé Bonano, the manager.
Buy a book but not only that…
Occupying 80% of the premises, the bookstore offers a wide selection of books. Among the many themes present, two main axes dominate: general literature and youth. However, feminism and natural tourism, linked to the richness of the surrounding landscapes, are also highlighted. This varied selection makes the establishment a destination of choice for reading enthusiasts looking for new releases or classics.
Adjacent to the bookstore section, the café, the only one located in Colombières-sur-Orb (the previous one having closed), offers a warm space where visitors can enjoy a hot or cold drink, while browsing through their latest purchases. The products on offer, from delicacies to drinks, are mostly from local artisanal productions. Even as far as Toulouse, with a tea produced in the regional capital. This demonstrates the brand's commitment to favoring short circuits. “We really try to promote local crafts and producers”, says the owner.
The terrace and the few tables and armchairs arranged inside, as well as outside, invite you to take a relaxing break. Whether they are passing tourists or residents, everyone can find something they like, taking the time to immerse themselves in a book while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the place.

“Gathering around books all year round”
Since its opening, the store has already welcomed many curious visitors, particularly thanks to the summer influx. After just the first week, customers seem ready to become regulars. The bookstore-café is already planning to organize various workshops and events throughout the year. These initiatives, still in the design phase, could include meetings with authors, signing sessions or thematic workshops. The aim is to make this space a place of life and exchange, centered around the book, which would be able to attract an ever wider audience. “I try to make contact to gather around the book all year round”, smiles Chlo”.
The”Tree of Talks” thus embodies much more than a simple business: it represents a new lease of life for Colombières-sur-Orb.
