The head of Tesla explained why drivers should not charge a Tesla battery to 100%
Whether to charge the battery to 100% – Elon Musk said, why not
The batteries of electric vehicles should not be recharged to 100%, it says Elon Musk. In the long term, a full charge can significantly reduce the lifetime of the battery, and the Tesla will be actually charged only to 90%.
It is not only the deterioration of the battery. In a recent message on Twitter Tesla CEO Elon Musk explained that the regenerative braking does not work when fully charged. Therefore, in order to take full advantage of regenerative braking, the battery of the electric vehicle must be recharged for a maximum of 90-95%.
The owner of the Tesla Model 3 Mask asked whether he should charge the battery to 100%. The question was asked on purpose, because when fully charged the Tesla Model 3 can travel up to 380 miles, and at 90% – 340 km. Musk confirmed that battery needs to charge for up to 90 or 95% to remain the “backlash” for regenerative braking.

Regenerative braking is a technology that turns braking energy into electricity. Its effectiveness depends on a number of factors, but it is believed that it extends the range of a Tesla by as much as 30%. Thus, charging the battery to 95% may actually be almost as good in terms of range and charging to 100%, because when braking the charge will be little, but to accumulate.
