Near Helsinki opened a pilot factory for the production of food of new type. At first, the products will enter the market: first you will need to obtain permission from the European Commission on food safety (EFA). It takes about two years, during which any new food should be tested on both animals and humans. However, Solar Foods, offered technology has no doubt of success, and after obtaining a license promises to annually produce 50 million servings of protein. It also intend to build environmentally clean factories, solar or other renewable energy sources.
The factory works according to the principle of the brewery, recycles not only the sugar, and the hydrogen and carbon dioxide. Using electrolysis of water hydrogen, which is saturated with carbon dioxide, and small amounts of trace elements. To this mixture, carefully tended, planted a colony bogoroditskaya bacteria, which begin to produce cells containing up to 60% protein, and amino acids similar to those present in soybeans or edible seaweed. After heat treatment turns nutritional powder, texture and appearance resembling dried milk. It can be used for enrichment of ration protein by adding it to pasta, bread and so on.
The idea of using hydrogen-oxidizing bacteria has long interested scientists. Thus, the Russian chemists learned how to use them to produce protein-rich feed for agriculture. Finnish startups that received investments in the amount of 1 million euros, was approved by the European Union: with the growth of population on the background of the depletion of its resources, the issue of lack of food for humanity is becoming more acute.
