Hurricane Helene was very deadly and caused significant damage in the United States: dozens of deaths and hundreds of missing. But one man braved the particularly harsh weather conditions to walk to his daughter's wedding.
The United States has been hit hard by Hurricane Helene. As of Tuesday, there are no fewer than 155 deaths and more than 600 missing people in the country, not to mention the number of homes and businesses without electricity, which exceeds one million. But a beautiful story comes to interfere in this sad period.
David Jones, a 61-year-old American and former marathon runner, walked several dozen kilometers to get to his daughter's wedding, an event he would not miss for anything in the world, even at the risk of his life.
A father's duty
The sixty-year-old who lives in South Carolina, took his car on September 27, while torrential rains were falling on the American state. He sets off on a journey of nearly 200 kilometers, 197 to be exact, amidst floods and numerous debris on the roads.
Arriving about fifty kilometers from his destination in Tennessee, he was forced to stop and leave his vehicle on the side of the road. The latter then takes with him "backpack filled with a shaving kit and a windbreaker, and the flash of his phone as the only source of light& ;quot;, details 6News. "There was debris everywhere on the road and on the sides”, explained the father.
He sets off for 48 kilometers on foot and quickly finds himself knee-deep in mud, to the point of losing his shoes. Luckily, a policeman stops and takes him as a passenger, then another driver finishes the last ten kilometers and drops him off where he wanted.
He arrives finally on time for the ceremony and attends his daughter's wedding safely, to her great joy. “I did what any father would do" ;quot;, assures David Jones.
