His company, Wiggins Rights Limited, went bankrupt due to debts amounting to 765,000 euros, according to the Times< /em>. This company had been in compulsory liquidation since 2020, but in 2023, the amount of these debts exceeded one million euros.

According to his lawyer, who spoke to the Daily Mail, the champion would be practically on the street and would be sheltered by members of his family and friends. “He doesn't have a penny left. It's a mess. He lost everything, really everything. His house, his pied-à-terre in Majorca, his savings and his investments… He doesn't have a cent left. It’s very sad. I don't know where he slept last night and I don't know where he will sleep tonight and tomorrow. He has no fixed address, details the lawyer.

Wiggins trophies soon to be sold ?

These financial difficulties have also forced the courts to seize the property of the winner of the 2012 Tour de France. Bankruptcy proceedings will now be initiated. "A receiver will be appointed to seize and sell his assets, including, possibly, medals and trophies from his successful sporting past", explains Paul Rouse, head of customer services at the accounting firm Forvis Mazars, interviewed by Le Figaro.

The former time trial specialist who retired in 2016 could therefore be forced to sell his titles, including his five Olympic gold medals.
