'I felt he was interested in me': Camille, 20, tells how she killed her suitor before hiding his body in a cupboard

Camille Anguenot, tried before the Haute-Saône assizes for the murder of a suitor whose body she had hidden in a closet, admitted that she wanted to flee and not return home, during a long interrogation on Wednesday.

“The idea was to flee”, she explained on the second day of her murder trial. After shedding a few tears at the beginning of her interrogation, she then detailed her life at the time.

She received family allowances, 900 euros per month: “Not rich, but not poor either, I was getting by”, she believes.

“I felt that he was interested in me”

Passionate about horse riding, the young woman owned two horses in particular. In mid-November 2021, Camille Anguenot was then 18 years old. A big user of social networks, she put her life on display: “I wanted to make people believe that my life was perfect but it was far from perfect”, she says today.

One evening she met Théo Decouchant at a nightclub: “I felt that he was interested in me, I wanted to play”, adds the woman whose investigators have highlighted her propensity to use boys to obtain money or services.

On November 29, 2021, she invited the 23-year-old man to her house, they ordered pizzas, drank some rosé and went to bed. According to the accused, the young man caressed her and was insistent, she punched him and killed him by stabbing him in the abdomen before strangling him with a belt.

“There was a misunderstanding and it got worse, I reacted”, she says. “It's reality but it's like it's fiction, I don't want to believe it. I don't realize the seriousness of the act I committed."

The next day, even though she doesn't have a driver's license, she takes the young man's car and his credit card to go find a new lover in Bordeaux.

The president highlights his cold and calculating side: "I knew I was going to end up in prison, that's why I fled," she replies.

But an accident car accident while she is then on her way to Paris puts an end to her escapade and she finally returns home, where the police arrive a week after the murder and discover the body of Théo Decouchant wrapped in garbage bags and hidden in a broom cupboard.

The 20-year-old woman faces 30 years in prison. Verdict on Friday.
