"I was impatient and wanted to meet my students": a successful first day back at Meynes nursery school for Camille Baillet

Une première journée en tant que maîtresse n'est jamais chose évidente. Midi Libre – Pierre Meuriot

This first Monday in September had a special flavor for many students and teachers!

Like everywhere in France, this Monday, September 2, the bell rang at the Meynes nursery school. For Camille Baillet, 24, it was a special day: her very first day back at school as a school teacher. The holidays are over, time for pencils, blackboards, and children's laughter… or tears, your choice!

The big day!

“I was impatient, confides the young teacher. I was especially eager to start this morning. No more stress at all, just the desire to meet my students.” And clearly, this desire was contagious and shared. “The parents were adorable and the students too. They were all adorable”, she says, with a hint of relief.

With 21 students on board — twelve in the senior section and nine in the middle section — Camille found the right formula for a successful first day. “For this first day back at school, nothing to declare, I'm happy. I expected to have more tears, I had two or three”. The solution”? “I gave them a little hug, and it quickly got better”, she smiled. Armed with her calm and a year of work-study experience at the Vendargues nursery school (Hérault), the young teacher was able to create a reassuring atmosphere from the first day.

“A smooth return to school”

For her first return to school as a teacher, Camille took care to rearrange her classroom to make it a welcoming and functional space. “I had rearranged everything during the summer to delimit the corners a little more, with a quieter space if there are too many noise, she explains. It's important that children can isolate themselves if necessary.”The goal: to provide a space where everyone can find their place. With her diary well prepared, the teacher began by detailing the day's program to the children, introduced them to the class rules, and even planned a different afternoon for the senior classes while the middle classes rested.

And on this first Monday of September, the least we can say is that the young school teacher wasted no time. “In the morning, it was a gentle return to school with a class presentation, and in the afternoon with the older children, I started the program with a math and geometry session.” A way to gently immerse the children in the bath.

At the end of the day, Camille could only be satisfied. “I am very happy with my first day”. A successful return to school, which marks the beginning of a great educational adventure for this young teacher and her students.
