“I will follow through on my promises”: Michaël Delafosse launches the 2nd edition of “Montpellier changes with you” in the neighborhoods

The mayor and elected officials meet residents of seven Montpellier neighborhoods. FREE MIDI – GIACOMO ITALIANO

From March 18 to June 22, the municipal team, led by Michaël Delafosse, will meet residents of seven Montpellier neighborhoods in order to encourage discussions around current transformation projects, or to come. A time that we want "free" which complements other consultation mechanisms.

Being part of the solution means agreeing to be part of the problem! Citizen or elected official, we are fond of these collective discussions where we raise dust, where we dust off local issues, where we express our daily grievances.

From there to convincing Montpellier residents that they are associated with the development of the general interest, there is only one step for Michaël Delafosse crosses for the second consecutive year with "Montpellier changes with you!", which can be described as a festival of citizen dialogue! Really ? But Montpellier is changing especially a lot.

How to participate ?

Before the public meeting, residents can go to participer.montpellier.fr to react, ask questions online or share their comments. At the end of each sequence, the presentation projected during the public meeting as well as a report will be available online.

The municipal team, led by the mayor, is once again serving the residents of the seven main neighborhoods (Croix d’Silver, Hôpitaux-Facultés, Port-Marianne, Prés d’ Arènes, Mosson, Cévennes and Center), through more than 100 meetings.

An engineering of harmony to produce appeasement

In this shining example of the desire for consultation,"Everyone is free to question, and it always happens with respect, it’s happy ! We must establish the temporalities. We owe dates, deadlines". In 2023, "people came in large numbers", 2 500 people participated in the hundred meetings organized around the mobile kiosk.

Launched since March 18 in the Croix d’Argent district, this engineering of concord, supposed to produce, in the absence of lasting peace, appeasement through a light brought to the stakes, is a perfectly oiled mechanism.

Democracy, "it's also, sometimes saying no!"

It is political speech that we also want to enhance, in a “I say what I do, and I do what I say”. And those who would see in these democratic meetings, a warm-up before the municipal campaign of 2026, are lost in conjectures: "I see my mandate in frankness and on the ground, democracy is a permanent exercise, it is also not saying yes to everyone, it is also, sometimes saying no by explaining, confirms Michaël Delafosse.

"In the 2nd half of 2025, we will have finished with the major works"

The fact is that 2024 marks the culmination of work, both those which reassure and those which irritate:"The transformations will be more and more visible. In the second half of 2025, we will have finished with the major works, so it is a moment of great pedagogy, so that everyone can find their place. In the first edition, the inconveniences were better and better understood. Hence the interest in coming to these meetings where it is a question of ecology, trees, decarbonization, thermal renovation of housing. Tomorrow, thanks to work on the North heat network, a wood boiler will make it possible to reduce the energy bill of nearby residents by 30% and avoid using gas from Mr. Putin !".

Two mandates… in one!

In the second part of the decade, construction sites will be less significant:"But I have to do almost two mandates in one, to catch up with the delays on the tram or the cycle paths. The disappearance of the Assas tower shows the change in this Paillade, and it will take more time than a mandate. Mosson and Cévennes are major issues since we will present the progress of the renovation, or demolitions will occur in 2025, the reconquest of the old village of Celleneuve… I will follow through on my promises, and I will keep them.
