Merchants and the tourist association have noticed a significant increase in the number of people in the Saguenay Fjord for the groundfish fishing season, which ends this weekend. 

The huts, which will therefore have to leave the ice before Sunday midnight, were able to take advantage of the success of the ice fishing.

“It's been a banner year seriously, from Thursday to Sunday, it didn't stop. Sometimes, we had up to two hours of waits for deliveries. It was magic,” explained Paulette Tremblay, manager of Pizza Maximum.

“We drove five hours, we're going to take advantage of it and catch the remaining fish,” confirmed a fisherwoman. .

People from outside the region were there, but the blueberries also took a liking to this activity. Same story at the Boivin cheese dairy, where the poutines and cheese were popular.

“You can see it right away, from the beginning of the season, people come to the cheese dairy and the canteen too. It's really good for the industry,” confided the owner of the Boivin cheese dairy.

Shack lessors also took advantage of this season, and there were many catches. 

“We had a lot of people from outside, people from the United States, the Middle East, the French,” confirmed the owner of Pêche Aventures Saguenay, Mélanie Davis.
