A few centimeters from the tragedy
“If I hadn't turned my head, I wouldn't be talking to you right now, even though I love you very much”, said the former head of state, quoted by the AP news agency.
Indeed, Donald Trump had narrowly escaped the tragedy. Although one of the bullets had hit him in the ear, he was not seriously injured. A few seconds later, escorted by his security team, he had been exfiltrated point-blank.
“When I stood up in front of the hand, in front of the raised fist, they didn't know if I was alive. Nobody knew. And when I raised my fist, they were relieved and happy and elated, and the place went crazy,” he recalled.
Assassination attempt
“Tonight, we witnessed what we call an assassination attempt on our former President Donald Trump,,” FBI agent-in-charge Kevin Rojek said in a press conference in Pittsburgh.
President Biden said he was “relieved” to learn that Trump was “safe and well,” and that there was no place for this kind of violence in America.
