Last Thursday, October 9, a parent threatened to kill the teachers at Paul-Riquet College in Béziers. The teachers had exercised their right to withdraw.
A very bad idea at a time when France is in the process of honoring the memory of two teachers, Samuel Paty and Dominique Bernard, murdered because they were teachers by a former student and a Chechen Islamist who had nothing to do with the school.
On Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at noon, a 36-year-old man showed up at Paul-Riquet College in Béziers after receiving a call from the school informing him that his daughter had been assaulted. He was angry and threatened the school staff in these terms: “I'm going to make you explode, I'm going to kill you”.
The men from the Béziers police station took the father into custody on Tuesday, October 15. He admitted the facts and apologized for his behavior, stating that he no longer remembered the words he had used in anger.
Brought before the court after a night in police custody
The Béziers public prosecutor's office ordered his referral on Wednesday, October 16, accusing him of the offenses of trespassing on the premises of a school, death threats and threats of damage to property against persons responsible for a public service mission (teachers, Editor's note).
As part of a procedure of appearance on prior admission of guilt (known as “pleaded guilty”), he was sentenced the same day to two months of suspended imprisonment and a ban on appearing in the Paul-Riquet school for one year.
