All because of a new law which will come into effect from 1 July 2019.
In Ukraine can withdraw from the sale of more than 1 thousand of imported whisky in connection with the definition of whisky in the Tax code, which will enter into force on 1 July.
This is stated in the message of the European business Association, reports the online edition of the Chronicle.info with reference to PKG.
By definition, whiskey is an alcoholic beverage, a strength of 35 to 45% by volume of units with a characteristic aroma, made according to the technology of cognac aged in oak barrels charred on the inside (tanks with charred oak staves) grain distillate.
However, the EBA stresses that it is contrary to international law – the EU regulations, according to which Europe set a minimum limit for alcohol concentration in volume percentage of 40% – with no upper threshold.
Also there’s no word on cognac technology, because whiskey is made by distillation of the wort.
Thus, the international manufacturers are able to produce a whisky with an alcohol content over 45%, which proposed to ban in Ukraine.
“According to preliminary estimates of the member companies of the European business Association, is more than 1,000 kinds of products (over 45%), which is officially imported and for which all taxes are paid. For example, last year it was imported 68,995 thousand liters of whiskey with an alcohol content over 45%, which in monetary terms is 170,96 million hryvnias”, – explained the Manager of the Committee on the import and trade in alcoholic beverages EBA Christina Linichenko.
According to the EBA, there is an objective risk that whiskey a strength of more than 45% is considered of poor quality and dangerous products, and therefore will be subject to disposal in accordance with law.
