In Balaruc-le-Vieux, the Medievals take spectators on an ancestral journey

Hands of gold and iron. This is the theme of this new edition of the Médiévales de Balaruc-le-Vieux. The objective is to promote, until the evening of Sunday July 21, the riches of medieval craftsmanship through the pen and the sword.

Sitting at the calligraphy stand, Michel shares his devotion to beautiful letters. He frequently visits schools in the department to introduce young people to the practice of calligraphy. "This is an opportunity for me to explain the importance of beautiful writing", explains he, taking advantage of the Medievals to broaden his audience.

A mix of history and entertainment

A few meters away, a camp sits at the entrance to the festival. It is occupied by the Knights of Saint John. Axes, spears, swords, the atmosphere is bellicose. However, the president of the association, Philippe de Saint Jean, assures that their sword fights are not dangerous and that their catapults only project candy."We do historical reenactments and family shows", he explains. A knighting ceremony (6 p.m.) and Celtic dances (12 p.m.) are planned for this Sunday.

Sunday is animated by theatrical performances reenacting the arrival of the plague in France (3 p.m.) or the celebration of a wedding (4:30 p.m.). The fortress of Balaruc-le-Vieux will sparkle at 10:30 p.m. with fireworks fired from the Angle cove. This will be followed by a closing ball provided by Paco Magic Show, a regular at Les Médiévales.
