In Béziers, a satisfactory return to school in primary schools, without job cuts

This Monday, September 2, the little schoolchildren of Béziers were going back to school, especially at the Roland primary school, in the city center. Dressed in their uniforms, most of them were smiling and happy to be there, and to see their friends again.

The parents were also there, to accompany their children to the entrance of the school. They too were happy: “Yes, we are happy that she is going back, smiled a dad. She too, by the way. This morning she was very excited, by 6:30 she was wearing her uniform. It's a good thing, it avoids mockery and discrimination."

"I'm in class with my friends"

This is also the case for Enzo, 7 years old, who was starting his CE1 class: "I'm happy to be going back to school, I couldn't wait to see everyone again, he said before going away. Plus, I'm in class with my friends this year."

And his classmates were too. When it was time to leave their parents and go back to school, some of them even hugged their teacher. Even if others had more difficulty taking the step, smiles were there, in the courtyard, when discovering the classes, displayed against the wall.

“Overall, we are rather satisfied”

Under the tender eye of Robert Ménard, accompanied by his wife, Emmanuelle Ménard, as well as the deputy in charge of the school, Alberte Frey. “This brings back memories, with Emmanuelle, we have children, smiles the mayor of Béziers. We can't help but remember our own return to school with our children and the emotion that it represents. It's always a moment when I'm happy."

Before continuing: "We have no complaints, we have one new position, no cuts, and even some duplications. Overall, we are rather satisfied. Then, it's a bit of a special start to the school year with these uniforms, plus, this year, the grants were larger."

When the bell rang at 8:45 a.m., the students lined up in pairs behind the markers in their class names. Once the principal had taken the roll call, they headed to their classroom, following their teacher. The start of a new school year for them.

Back to school in figures

In Béziers, there are no fewer than 42 public schools in which schoolchildren have started their school year. As well as five private schools and three calendretas. “This represented, in January, 7,250 students enrolled in public schools, spread across 369 classes. There were 4,647 in elementary school and 2,603 in nursery school, says Alberte Frey, deputy in charge of schools at Béziers town hall. In principle, each year, we see an increase of around 200 students, so we should be approaching 7,500 students this year."

Before continuing "In the private sector, we had 1,941 students enrolled in Béziers. This is a figure that is constant from one year to the next." This year, we should therefore approach 10,000 students enrolled in the various schools in Béziers.
