Geoffroy cats are native to South America and typically occur in the southern part of the continent. Its name they received in honor of the French zoologist Etienne Geoffroy.
The size of the Geoffroy cat is comparable to ordinary domestic cat, but have a bold tone. Depending on the specific region of the habitat, they can have either gold or silver color – with the inevitable black spots and bands on the body and the face.
The first cat Geoffroy, a female by the name of Veit, was in Novosibirsk zoo in 2016, and two years later it was joined by a male. In 2019, the couple were the first kids. Both cats like their parents: their coat is gray with small black spots.
According to representatives of zoo, the maternal instinct made Veidt more emotional. If earlier the employees calmly went into the aviary for cleaning, now do it with more caution: Veidt at any moment ready to rush to the defense of her kittens.
But the cats Geoffroy concerns about posterity are now busy and other members of the cat family. Babies are born in the families of servals, caracals cats and viverrids. While visitors do not have the opportunity to see all these kittens. But very soon, once established warm weather, cats and kittens will be transferred to an outdoor enclosure.
