Wednesday, 16 may, the Primorsky district court of Odessa under the chairmanship of Anatoly Derus changed the measure of restraint 21-year-old Konstantin Umanets, who, on 11 March knocked down two pedestrians on the sidewalk. (Ironically, the seaside regional court is situated just on the same street — Bulkowski, where the defendant committed a double fatal accident.)
As previously reported “FACTS”, the night of 11 March while driving on the street Bulkowski Toyota Camry at speed when skidding went beyond the roadway and made arrival on two pedestrians. The prosecution insisted on prolongation of term of detention, but the judge did not find this a compelling reason. A number of NGOs expressed outrage at this court decision, stressing that this is not the first case of flagrant violations of the “night rider” rules of the road.
According to the famous Odessa public activist Dmitry Wichitainjured in the accident was walking along the road on the sidewalk, and cars were two. Both, as suggested by Vicic, participated in night races, in which Toyota took off on the curb.
