Epic Games for a long time experimenting with ray tracing.
In the upcoming update of the game engine Unreal Engine 4 from us developer Epic Games will support ray tracing in real time. Starting with version 4.22, the creators of video games will be able to use in your projects software DirectX Raytracing API (DXR), and to make the most of graphics cards with its support, reports the online edition of the Chronicle.info with reference to overclockers.ua.
As regards the application of ray tracing, the new Unreal Engine 4 it can be used to create soft shadows, high quality reflections, shading, translucency, global illumination and many other effects. How many of them will be implemented in the new gaming projects depends on developers. However, given the low prevalence of cards that support DXR and also the cost of ray tracing in the near future games are likely to be endowed with the support of one or two advanced effects.
It should be noted that the first demonstration of a set of Nvidia RTX, which became the main “chip” of accelerators architecture Turing, was built on the Unreal Engine 4. In other words, Epic Games for a long time experimenting with ray tracing and it can be expected that in the new version of the engine performance cards GeForce RTX will be on a high enough level.
