The Philippines passed a law which could become an example for all other countries. The government ordered all the students to plant at least 10 trees: only in this case they will be given a certificate or diploma. This is a very simple task to perform which will not be difficult. The effect is stunning.
“Through this initiative, more than 12 million primary school graduates, 5 million high school graduates and nearly 500,000 College graduates every year to be planted at least 175 million new trees,” one of the authors of the law, Alejano Gary (Gary Alejano).
Currently preparing an expert opinion on the project. The species selected for planting must conform to each specific location, its climate and terrain (will give preference, of course, local flora). To plant trees is planned in the mangroves, existing forests, abandoned areas of mining and separate urban areas and also in protected areas, and military lands.
One of the current generation of young people in total will plant trees and shrubs in the country to 525 billion trees. Even if you hold only 10% of seedlings, is equal to 525 million.
The Philippines suffered greatly from deforestation in the twentieth century: previously the forest covered 70% of the territory, to our days, this figure dropped to 20%. An important environmental problem is the illegal deforestation, many areas which are important role in protection from floods and landslides.
