SAINT-LIBOIRE – The authorities have opened an investigation Saturday after the death of a pedestrian on highway 20 West in the area of Saint-Liboire, in the Montérégie region.
It all started around 23 h when the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) has received a call reporting the presence of a “restless” which ran near the railroad tracks in Saint-Liboire, said Saturday the officer Valérie Beauchamp, spokesman for the police force.
While the officers were on the scene, other calls have also been received, this time to signal the presence of an individual on the highway 20 West.
Then, other communications were also reports of collisions between vehicles and pedestrians.
The spokesperson for the SQ, said that according to initial information, it would be the same individual. Their arrival on the spot, the police have found a man of 39 years lifeless at kilometre 145, still on highway 20 West.
His death was recorded on the spot.
Moreover, the driver of a car that struck the pedestrian left the scene, but he was then located.
“The police proceeded to his arrest for impaired driving and prohibition of conduct,” added the spokesperson for the SQ, pointing out that he had been released subsequently.
In addition to an investigator and a reconstructionist, someone from the investigation division the major crimes of the SQ is on the scene to analyze the scenes and try to determine the circumstances of the events.
To note that highway 20 West had to be closed in the area until 6 a.m. in the morning.
