Iranian police have arrested three people suspected of trying to sell babies on Instagram, reported Wednesday the news agency Isna.
“Three people who wanted to sell two babies have been arrested,” said the police chief of Tehran, Hossein Rahimi, quoted by the agency.
One of the babies had 20 days and the other two months, he said.
The police had been alerted by ” ads to sell baby on Instagram “. Between 10 and 15 accounts had shared photos on the social network.
Each baby would have been purchased between 50 and 100 million rials (approximately 270 euros and$ 600) before being put on sale for a sum of between 400 and 500 million rials (between approximately 2300 and 2800$), according to Mr. Rahimi, who has not given more details.
The babies were handed over to social services, he said.
According to Isna, one of the three people arrested has claimed to be unemployed and without money and not to have acted merely as an intermediary.
