Israel-Hamas war: 'Blood and human remains scattered', six Palestinians killed in West Bank after Israeli raid

Six Palestinians were killed this Sunday, January 7, 2024, by an Israeli airstrike in Jenin, in the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, while Israel announced the death of a member of its Borders police.

This violence comes as US Secretary of State Antony Blinken visits the region as part of a diplomatic tour aimed at preventing a regional flaring of the conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Israel said it carried out an airstrike against Palestinian militants who attacked its soldiers operating in Jenin. The Palestinian Health Ministry said the strike killed people gathered at the site.

"One of the martyrs beheaded"

Witnesses added that she intervened as Israeli forces were withdrawing. "One of the martyrs was beheaded,” said Moujahid Nazzal, a Palestinian doctor who responded to the scene.

"It appears the missile hit him directly. Others had severed limbs. A seventh person was seriously injured and evacuated by ambulance."

Hundreds of Palestinians killed since the start of the war

The Israeli army and police, for their part, announced that a member of the border police had been killed in a vehicle hit by an explosive device. Other occupants of the vehicle were injured.

The Jenin Brigade, affiliated with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement, claimed responsibility for the attack. A helicopter responding to rescue Israeli police officers opened fire "on a terrorist group throwing explosives and putting our forces in danger," the IDF said.

"A number of terrorists were killed,” she added. Several hundred Palestinians have been killed in clashes with Israeli soldiers or Jewish settlers since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip three months ago.
