“It was stored there”: a patient who had been placed on a stretcher for 10 days commits suicide in the psychiatric emergency room

Selon des informations de La Dépêche, un patient hospitalisé aux urgences psychiatriques de l'hôpital Purpan à Toulouse s'est donné la mort ce mercredi 14 février.

Drama in the psychiatric emergencies of Purpan in Toulouse. According to information from La Dépêche, a person, hospitalized in the&# 39;establishment, ended his life at the very beginning of the morning this Wednesday, February 14. The deceased had been there for ten days, on a consultation stretcher. This tragedy was quickly denounced by the Sud and CGT unions.  

"It was stored there, indicate Isabelle, South delegate, and Sébastien, CGT. Due to lack of places, patients remain in the emergency room. This is not the fault of the caregivers but of the ARS (regional health agency) which does not take its responsibilities. Normally, they should only stay there for a few hours, but more often than not, it lasts two or three days or even more.

Faced with this type of situation where hospitals are saturated, the unions are sounding the alarm.

"Psychiatric emergencies are 200% saturated with repercussions on somatic emergencies. It’s up to the ARS to find beds. We must take into account the annual increase in the population" insist the delegates.
