Caitlyn Disley, a 15-year-old British girl, was refused entry at the airport in Hurghada, a city in northeastern Egypt, by two security agents so that she could prove that she was not a boy.
Bad holiday memories. On August 25, 2024, Caitlyn Disley, 15, was about to enjoy a sunny holiday with her girlfriend, Liv, and her family when she was stopped at Hurghada airport in Egypt, reports The Mirror.
L& The teenage girl had to prove to security guards that she was a girl, even though her passport said “female” in order to leave the premises. The two men at the airport doubted her identity because she had short hair.
She was then taken to a private room for a nurse examines him. “She asked Caitlyn to lift up her sports bra. […] Liv's mom said no way and they compromised by asking Caitlyn to tighten her shorts to show that she didn't have male genitalia. They were then allowed to leave,”, the young British girl's father described.

“It was a horrible experience,”
“It was traumatic and embarrassing,”, Caitlyn Disley said, keeping a bad memory of her holiday. She was afraid it would happen again when she returned to the airport to fly back to the UK.
“It was a horrible experience, and I think it affects her even more now that she is back home,”, her father said.
The British organisation Human Dignity Trust, for its part, says that there are “consistent reports of discrimination and violence against LGBT people in Egypt".
