ROME | The application of tracing contacts, as chosen by Italy in its fight to stem the spread of the COVID-19 has been downloaded by 500 000 people in 24 hours, which places it at the top of the downloads national, written on Wednesday, the Corriere della sera.
“More than 500,000 downloads in the 24 hours and the first place in the ranking of Italian of the most popular apps”, wrote the first newspaper of the peninsula.
“She has been appreciated for its simplicity and the citizens have understood its usefulness,” commented the minister for Innovation Paola Pisano, cited by the newspaper.
This result is all the more surprising that the application will only be operational from Monday 8 June in four areas of the test while the sixteen others will follow, in principle, a week later.
The application Immuni was carried out by the company Bending Spoons in Milan (north). Created with the support of a medical facility, it adheres to the rules set out by the european Union, according to the Italian government.
It is based on Bluetooth technology and not on the geolocation. Everyone is free to download and has control of his personal data which do not leave the phone of the user.
If a person who uses the application, finds that she is positive to the COVID-19, it is she who sends its data to a server that goes back in time in order to find his contacts via Bluetooth and warn those likely to have cross.
The company Bending Spoons has freely granted all rights of use of the application, as well as its future updates, to the government, according to the same source.
Italy is one of the hardest-hit countries in the world by the pandemic COVID-19 which has more than 33 500 people dead for more than 233 599 cases in the peninsula.
