Italy, the promised land for the professional integration of young people from the Thau basin

Eight young people from the Thau Basin Local Youth Integration Mission (MLIJBT) went to Genoa, Italy, to discover different professional sectors. This is possible thanks to the collaboration of the MLIJBT and the Viramonde association. After three weeks spent on transalpine soil, the young people and their leaders met at the CFA Nicolas Albano in Sète to take stock of this trip.

A fruitful partnership

The MLIJBT is in partnership with the Viramonde association, specialized in supporting professional mobility. The result of this partnership is a departure, on average every two months, to different destinations, such as Genoa and Cordoba, for young people from the Mission.

"For the moment, we are staying on short-term travel, three weeks maximum. But it’is bound to evolve",explains Paola Aceti, director of Viramonde France. A longer format which would be more suitable for young people, wishing to extend the adventure.

Thanks to this experience acquired on Italian territory, the young people hope to find training or a job. "The program helps them to expand their CV and their Europass, specifies the director of Viramonde. Europass allows young people to present their skills and qualifications abroad in a coherent and professional manner.

An enriching program

"With them, we really work on interpersonal skills in the community and in the professional world", analysis Paola. As with every trip, those in charge have formed groups, divided into two apartments. This initiative aims to accustom young people to living together, through shared accommodation. .

The stay also includes several obligatory activities, supervised by speakers present on site. "We had Italian lessons  in the streets of Genoa to continue learning the language and we also had cultural outings, remembers Samba Delajoie, 22 years old, originally from Gigean.

Positive findings

"Young people choose, in advance, the sectors in which they want to work", explains Yohan Margouet, mobility facilitator at the MLIJBT. This approach can spark vocations. This will perhaps be the case for Selena Château, a young 19-year-old from Sétoise:  "I loved the video course, it  ;rsquo;is a path that I already had in mind. And there, diving into it, it confirmed my desire."

For Yohan Margouet, it’is also very positive: "I have only had good feedback from employers and young people are happy. So, it’s a success."

Eight new young people from the MLIJBT will also leave for Genoa on September 16.
