Entre slaloms et ambiance festive, le week-end du 23 et 24 mars à Font-Romeu risque d'être fort en émotions avec le Ski Club Sétois.
Pour clôturer la saison hivernale, The Sète Ski Club organizes its annual competition on the snow of Font-Romeu. “Everyone is invited, it is not only aimed at licensees”, informs president Claude Combas. On Saturday March 23, around a hundred participants, all Sétois and residents of the Agglopôle, will set off on a forty-gate slalom.
Skiers are timed and allowed two passes. The winner wins the honorary prize of the City and the Agglomeration. Don't panic, the spirit is not one of rivalry: “There are only around ten who are there to win. The rest is mainly to have a good time, recognizes Claude Combas. The next day, a parallel slalom is reserved for participants wishing to compete in a duel.
A scent of conviviality
This “an unmissable event” has existed for around thirty years. According to the president, this is an original initiative since this type of competition is generally only offered in ski schools. However, skiers really get into the game, to the point of having a track record. Ghislan Sabatier has won the cup twenty times and has even surpassed the opener's time several times. A few weeks before the fateful weekend, Claude Combas bets on Mathis Liguori, 15 years old, and Camille Foulquier, 21 years old. The latter would become the first titled woman.
Behind this discipline lies the scent of conviviality. “It’is like a jousting contest”< /em>, compares the club president, referring to the rigorous side of the practice. At the same time, he emphasizes the “party atmosphere” that the event represents. “It’is a time of celebration without making fun of skiing.” A proof of this spirit of fraternity ? The age range of those registered: it extends from 5 to 86 years.
