Alain has advised the Canadiens that he will not be showing up to the team’s training camp to pursue his studies full time and reconsider his future in professional hockey.
The news, confirmed by the Canadian in a press release Thursday noon, comes less than 24 hours after the unveiling of the list of 42 players who have been invited to the team’s training camp, which will be held from January 3 to 12. Alain’s name did not appear on the list.
By mutual agreement, the statement said, the Canadiens’ organization placed the name of the 23-year-old Quebecer on an unconditional waiver in order to end their agreement.

Alain also won the Guy-Lafleur Award of Excellence and Merit in 2018, an honor awarded annually to student hockey players who have distinguished themselves from a sports and academic point of view.
In the official press release of the Canadiens, general manager Marc Bergevin complimented Alain and wished him good luck in the quest for his goals.
“Alexandre embodies several values that are important to our team. In addition to having an irreproachable attitude and being a proud competitor, he is an excellent teammate appreciated by all, ”said Bergevin.
