“It's the last one, for sure”: Mother gives birth to baby boy who joins a large family of 16 children

Ce mardi 30 juillet 2024, une femme a donné naissance à un petit garçon à Nice. Le petit nouveau fait désormais partie d'une grande famille de 16 ans.

Kenny is the newborn of a couple from Nice. He was born this Tuesday, July 30th in the Santa Maria maternity hospital in Nice. He is the little brother of a large family, he has fifteen brothers and sisters.

A surprise child

This couple met three years ago, each of them already had children, Catia, nine and Miguel six. But Kenny wasn't planned, however, he was a nice surprise, a union between the two families, according to Nice-Matin.

“Oh no, I didn't plan this tenth pregnancy. I even wore an IUD!”, explains the mother. “But when I found out I was pregnant, we didn't think about it because it was obvious to both of us: we wanted to keep it”, she adds.

A Portuguese tradition ?

“I would like to have 11 children but for now my boyfriend doesn't really agree. In Portugal, there are a lot of big families. “It's great to have lots of brothers and sisters,” says Alexia, Kenny's sister, aged 21 and living in Marseille.

His first daughter at 14

“I loved having all these children. I had my first daughter, Cristina, at 14,” says the mother. She was in an arranged marriage in Portugal. “My 9 children arrived one after the other without having been planned, I let nature take its course”, she explains.

“It's the last one, that's for sure. In addition, the delivery was long and complicated. The most difficult of the ten. I'm stopping, I won't have any more,” she confirms. Catia and Miguel now want more grandchildren, they already have four.
