“It’s time to ascend the throne”: in Occitania, a caustic campaign calls for colorectal cancer screening

Alors que la participation au dépistage du cancer colorectal piétine, les acteurs de santé de Montpellier ont imaginé une campagne de sensibilisation pleine d'humour à l'occasion de Mars Bleu.

The third most common cancer and second cause of cancer mortality, colorectal cancer remains a poor relative of screening: barely 34.6% of the eligible population, those aged 50-74, and 31.9% in Occitanie does the screening test every two years. The kit, free, can be requested from your doctor, collected from a pharmacy or ordered online.

On the occasion of Mars Bleu, the traditional screening awareness month, health stakeholders in Occitanie have imagined a campaign full of humor to move the lines by inviting test candidates to "ascend to the throne”. The visual, produced by the Montpellier Cancer Institute, "did'cost nothing", specifies the' #39;establishment.

The regional health agency, in conjunction with Health Insurance, the Agricultural Social Mutuality, the regional cancer screening coordination center and the League against Cancer will launch the campaign this Friday March 1st.

90% cured if caught early

During the whole month, those involved in prevention will also contact the public, sometimes accompanied by the "throne" visible on the campaign poster. Several meetings are notably planned in Montpellier. 

Colorectal cancer affects 42,000 new people each year (23,200 men and 18,900 women). It is responsible for 17,500 deaths. Detected early, colorectal cancer is curable in 9 out of 10 cases.
