Jegou-Auradou case: lawyers for the two rugby players will request a dismissal of the case this Monday, towards the end of the saga ?

Oscar Jegou and Hugo Auradou, the two rugby players accused of aggravated rape in Argentina, were released a week ago but cannot leave the country. Their lawyers will request a dismissal of the case on Monday, August 19.

A week after their release but forced to stay in Argentina, the rugby players of the French XV Oscar Jegou and Hugo Auradoucould see their situation change in the coming days, or even hours. Their lawyers will file a request for dismissal this Monday with the public prosecutor of Mendoza, reveal our colleagues from Le Parisien.

As a reminder, the two men are accused of aggravated gang rape of a 39-year-old woman. Facts dating back to the night of July 6-7 at the Diplomatic Hotel in Mendoza, while the French team was on tour in Argentina.

Imprisoned until July 17, they were then placed under house arrest until August 12. August 12, a deadline in this saga. The prosecution, after hearing both parties, considered that the complainant's version contained "grey areas", “notorious contradictions”. Elements deemed too weak to justify the continued detention of the La Rochelle and Pau players.

And now”?

The following week could accelerate the outcome of the case. This Monday, at 6pm local time (11pm French time), a hearing will be held to study the psychological and psychiatric assessments carried out by the two players last week. It is at the end of this hearing that the request for dismissal will be filed, specifies Le Parisien. The complainant's assessments will be debated at an unspecified date.

The investigation could therefore end within the week if the request for dismissal is accepted, which would result in the charges being dropped. “Only the results of these expert reports could tip the balance” towards the continuation of the case, a judicial source assured the daily.

Despite their release, the two men had their passports confiscated pending the end of the case. They are also prohibited from contacting the complainant.
