Johnny Gaudreau will test the free agent market

Star forward Johnny Gaudreau reportedly decided to test the free agent market, much to the dismay of the Calgary Flames.

“Johnny Hockey” reportedly turned down the latest offer from general manager Brad Treliving and will become free as air on Wednesday, according to the Sportsnet network.

The 28-year-old American winger completed the last season of a six years with an annual value of $6.75 million.

He is expected to enjoy a major pay rise in his new deal. The specialized site DailyFaceoff has also argued that he would have refused an offer of eight years and $ 80 million from the Flames.

“It's a very disappointing day,” said Treliving, whose remarks was picked up by his team's Twitter account. I want our fans to know that we did everything we could to keep John in Calgary. I believe it was a very difficult decision for him and everyone was well intentioned in the process.

“I am convinced that this is a decision of a family nature, this which I fully respect. We have nothing but respect for John the player and John the human.”

Gaudreau had his best campaign of his career this year. He scored 40 goals for the first time, in addition to collecting 115 points.

This former fourth-round pick in 2011 has 609 points in 602 games in the National Hockey League.

< p>Recall that Gaudreau and the Flames saw their playoff run come to an abrupt end when they were beaten in five games by their sworn enemies, the Edmonton Oilers, in the second round.
