The Houston Astros received bad news about second baseman Jose Altuve on Sunday.
The day before, the athlete from The 32-year-old injured his thumb on his right hand during a World Baseball Classic matchup. The Venezuelan hurt himself during a duel against the United States. He received a shot from Daniel Bard directly on his hand.
The Astros have advised that Altuve will require surgery and they don't know how long he will be out at this time.
“I feel pretty good,” said Altuve, whose remarks were reported by the daily newspaper “Houston Chronicle's”.
“I just have to go home and concentrate on this what I'm going to have to do. I will stay around the team and I will encourage my teammates.”
“Nobody wants to get injured and start the campaign on the injured list. I want to control what I can control and recover quickly to get back with the team.”
In 2022, Altuve maintained a .300 batting average. He hit 158 hits, including 28 home runs.
