Kylian Mbappé is the subject of an investigation by the Swedish police for "rape and sexual assault" after his visit to Stockholm last week, the daily newspaper Expressen claimed on Monday, after the French star had previously denounced "fake news".

According to the Swedish newspaper, the French striker is considered “reasonably suspicious” in this investigation, which is the lowest level of suspicion provided for by Swedish law.

Asked whether they were aware of a complaint against Mbappé, his entourage answered “no” to AFP.

The French superstar had said she was the victim of “fake news” earlier this Monday following an article in another Swedish daily, Aftonbladet, claiming that a rape investigation had been opened, without mentioning the person targeted.

“FAKE NEWS !!!! It's becoming so predictable, audience watch as if by chance”, the Real Madrid player protested on the social network X, establishing a link between the article in Aftonbladet and the hearing scheduled for Tuesday, October 15, 2024 before a commission of the Professional Football League (LFP) in the financial dispute between him and Paris SG.

Enquête en course

The former Parisian striker is demanding 55 million euros in unpaid wages and other bonuses from his former club.

According to Aftonbladet, Mbappé was with a group of people at the Chez Jolie restaurant in the Swedish capital on Thursday evening before heading to the "V" club where they met other people.

The rape allegedly took place on Thursday evening "in central Stockholm", according to a complaint thatAftonbladet claims to have seen. "The police took up the complaint on Saturday after the woman sought treatment", Aftonbladet added.

"An investigation is underway into a crime that was reported on October 10 in central Stockholm", the prosecutor in charge of the case said, without giving further details.

Stockholm police, when contacted, would not confirm or to deny" this information.

“In general, if we have received a complaint and decided to conduct interviews and we make this known (to the public), it is possible that those involved in the case will take measures that delay and complicate the investigation,”, explained spokesperson Carina Skagerlind.

According to photos published by Aftonbladet, the police were outside the hotel where Mbappé and his entourage were staying on Monday.

“Rumor slanderous"

Given the scale that this affair is beginning to take on social networks in France, the player's entourage had decided to react firmly at the beginning of the evening.

"Today, a new slanderous rumor is beginning to set the web ablaze, starting from the Swedish media Aftonbladet", he explains in a press release. “These accusations are completely false and irresponsible, and their dissemination is unacceptable.”

“In order to put an end to this methodical destruction of (Kylian Mbappé's) image, all necessary legal actions will be taken to re-establish the truth and prosecute any person or media involved in the moral harassment and defamatory treatment that Kylian Mbappé repeatedly suffers”, he warns again.

“Not a good thing for the team of France"

Indirectly called into question by the player in his tweet, Paris SG prefers to "ignore him and keep its class and dignity", confided a source close to the club.

"This is not a good thing for the French team", regretted for his part the coach Didier Deschamps on Monday evening after the victory in Belgium (2-1).

"I tell you again, each is free to write whatever he wants, but there is a negative environment” around the Blues, Deschamps continued, asking journalists at a press conference: “Be careful when you take things up. It is better to take a step back before coming out with anything and everything, but it happens so many times…”
