La Grande-Motte: wishes worthy of a flamboyant 50th anniversary

The Pasino had a full house for the presentation of Mayor Stéphan Rossignol's wishes to the people of Grand-Motto, at the start of the “birthday year”. Hervé LAURENT

At Pasino, on Thursday January 11, more than a thousand residents of Grand-Motto attended Mayor Stéphan Rossignol's greeting ceremony, to detail how "the city's flame has been burning for 50 years”.

More than a thousand residents of Grand-Motto responded to Stéphan Rossignol's invitation, this Thursday, January 11, for the traditional greeting ceremony at Pasino. Well, not so traditional since the station celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2024. And the chorus "the flame of the city has been burning for 50 years" would punctuate the mayor's remarks. He had arranged to meet at 6 p.m. but, wanting to greet each guest, his speech did not begin until 7:45 p.m.

At the start, the elected official called to his side on stage around forty elected officials, from his municipal council, from the Agglomeration of the Pays de l& ;#39;Or that he chairs (including the 1st vice-president and mayor of Mauguio-Carnon Yvon Bourrel, as well as the 2nd vice-president and mayor of Palavas-les-Flots Christian Jeanjean), of the department council or the region.

Stéphan Rossignol, after various thanks – there will also be many at the end -, took up the history of the station to project the impressive list of meetings for 2024.

« A year of birthdays »

"The glow of the architect Jean Balladur turned into a flame", underlined Stéphan Rossignol recalling the first sightings, in August 1962, of this visionary alongside of General de Gaulle, then the autonomy of the city acquired on October 1, 1974. "And the flame of La Grande-Motte has been burning for 50 years now. It shines well beyond its municipal limits, shines with its attractiveness, often lights the way with the innovations it carries."

"The year 2024 also marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the French architect", also recalling the one who has led the city for sixteen years.

On this fiftieth anniversary, there will be many meetings. "And our flame will burn this year in Olympic color, continued Stéphan Rossignol. Labeled Terre de Jeux and Games preparation center, La Grande-Motte will live from July 26 to August 11 to the rhythm of athletic dreams."

Becoming more political late in life, the elected official congratulated Gabriel Attal "on his appointment as Prime Minister. He has visited our city three times in three years, let's hope that the pace continues as head of government."

The most patient were treated to two final surprises. Three actors from the series “Un si grand soleil”, several sequences of which are filmed here, were going to join Stéphan Rossignol on stage for a few touching words, at the right time since it was already 8:40 p.m., time broadcast of the France 2 production. And the final bouquet went to singer Camron Lamart. Enough to whet your appetite for the anticipated feasts, to the sound of the La Grande-Motte Big Band, at the height of a sumptuous 50th anniversary.
