MONTEVIDEO, uruguay | Latin America and The Caribbean have become, on Sunday, the region of the world that have counted the highest number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic, the COVID-19 4 340 214 cases, according to a report drawn up by the AFP on Sunday, at 17h00, from official sources.
This is the first time that the number of infections, in this part of the world, exceeds that of North America, which account 4 330 989 cases, mainly in the United States, the most affected country in the world with 4.2 million infections and nearly 150,000 deaths.
In Latin America, Brazil is the country most affected with 2 394 513 cases and 86 449 dead Saturday. An increase of the contamination is found in Mexico, Peru, Colombia and Argentina, countries that attempt to restart their economic activity to limit the impact of the pandemic.
The number of dead, Europe stays in the lead with 207 933 deaths, followed by Latin America and the Caribbean (182 726), and the United States and Canada (155 673).
