Legislative elections 2024, 1st constituency of Gard: in triangular, Yoann Gillet (RN) is in a favorable ballot

The outgoing deputy RN Yoann Gillet comes first in the first round of the legislative elections with 43.91% of the vote, more than 14 points ahead of the representative of the New Popular Front Charles Menard (La France Insoumise). Valérie Rouverand (Renaissance), 3rd, holds on.

The outgoing deputy Yoann Gillet (National Rally) remains in a favorable vote after the first round of the legislative elections, this Sunday, with 43.91% of the votes cast. He secured more than double the number of votes than two years ago, proof that he is benefiting from the jump in participation (+16 points compared to 2022) and the increase in participation. rsquo;absence of the extreme right Reconquest. On the right, The Republicans barely manage to exceed 5% of the votes cast with Loumy Bourghol.

Contrary to what some could predict, Yoann Gillet, however on acquired land (55% for Europeans in the constituency excluding Nîmes) does not imitate his RN counterpart on the second constituency of Gard Nicolas Meizonnet, who managed to win in the first round. "I achieved 44 % so it’s not a disappointment", confides the outgoing MP. "I am very confident for the future because the voters have made a very clear choice. I now consider that there will be a duel in the second round between the representative of the republic and the Melenchonist representative of migratory, security and economic chaos."< /p>

The maintenance of Valérie Rouverand

But make no mistake. There will indeed be a triangular on Sunday July 7 since, despite qualifying for the second round on the wire (12.61% of those registered, 20.10% of the votes), the Renaissance candidate Valérie Rouverand made the choice to maintain itself. "I am between two extremes: either the Mélenchonists or the Lepénistes. I am the only one to represent the Republican arc. For me, it’s very clear, I stand my ground!"

The opposition municipal councilor of Nîmes also noticed her 22-23% in the Gard prefecture, which, in the perspective of the 2026 municipal elections, can count. She also gleaned more than 2,000 votes compared to the score in 2022 of the outgoing member of the presidential majority Françoise Dumas.

Charles Menard is a hit in Nîmes

This maintenance of the president of Renaissance in Gard made the Insoumis Charles Menard jump. The candidate of the New Popular Front, who came in second position this Sunday with 29.54% of the votes cast (16,747 votes), did not mince his words: "Valérie Rouverand is on the wrong track. It’s dangerous to put on the same level the racist, xenophobic extreme right, which wants to sort the French according to their origins, contest the institutions of the Republic, with the republican left, carrier  of a legislative contract. I challenge Ms. Rouverand to find something extreme in the program I am carrying. There is anyway a demonization of what we wear that is fashionable at the moment. This is completely unfounded.

What, however, could have delighted the left-wing candidate this Sunday evening (without Lutte Ouvrière who did not reach 1%), was the improvement in his 2022 result since he secures almost double the number of votes (16,747 this time compared to 8,731 two years ago).

He also benefits from an increase in participation and achieves his best scores in the cantons of Nîmes. He recorded 36.91% of the votes to beat RN Yoann Gillet (33.75%). "We carried out a very good, effective campaign on the ground with committed activists, a united left", added the Insoumis candidate. He and his troops were not defeated this Sunday evening despite more than 14 points behind the outgoing deputy RN.
