Are in the running for the position of deputy for Lozère, Sunday July 7, 2024: Pierre Morel-À-L’Bailiff (various right), Sophie Pantel (New Popular Front) and Luc-Étienne Gousseau (National gathering).

It is indeed a triangular which will allow us to elect the deputy for the only constituency of Lozère, this Sunday July 7, 2024. The outgoing deputy, who was who came third in the first round, announced at 5 p.m., this Tuesday, July 2, 2024, that he was maintaining his candidacy for the second round of these early legislative elections.

Coming third in the first round with 24.04% of the votes, Pierre Morel-À-L’Huissier will be opposed to Luc-Étienne Gousseau (National Rally), who came second (33, 91%) and Sophie Pantel (New Popular Front) came first (35.18%).

"I never changed sides"

While speculation was rife on the profile of this second round, with some imagining a withdrawal of the outgoing deputy, who came in third position, Pierre Morel-À-L’Bailiff cut short  : "This does not correspond to my values at allI am a Republican, I have never changed sides, right and center, I persist in this orientation and I am running in the second round in the conviction that the Lozériens could change their vote.& quot; It thus intends to be "the third way, a republican way", between the New Popular Front and the National Rally .

"My action has never been questioned", proclaims the outgoing MP, attributing his score in the first round to the rise of the RN, which is a “sanction of the government's action“.

Approached by Ciotti and the RN

Pierre Morel-À-L’Huissier also explained, during this press conference, that he had been called, before the first round, by Éric Ciotti to join his system, which would have disqualified Luc-Étienne Gousseau's candidacy: “I refused this orientation.” After the first round, he says he was asked if he wanted to withdraw “for the benefit of one or the other. (… ) I was told that if I agreed to withdraw, the RN offered me a position in Paris in compensation. My answer was no."

Concerning the political situation in the country, Pierre Morel-À-L’Bailiff insisted: "I think that the President of the Republic must take action on what he has decided, and not in a year. I predict that we will be in a political crisis in October or November, which does not reassure me, but which also induces my presence: I will be present in the second round, I will be present in the month of ;October, and I will be present in 2025. There is no question that I will leave political life and leave France in a state of disintegration as we know it today."

It will be up to the voters to decide. Lozériens will therefore have the choice between three candidates this Sunday, July 7, 2024: Pierre Morel-À-L’Huissier (various right), Sophie Pantel (New Popular Front) and Luc-Étienne Gousseau (Rassemblement national).
