Lighting of the Michel-Millet stadium: too expensive an investment for the city of Agde

La délocalisation de la rencontre entre le Rugby-olympique agathois et Nuits-Saint-Georges samedi dernier à Béziers, a fait réagir la municipalité d'Agde.
The lack of efficient lighting on the main pitch of the Michel-Millet rugby stadium forced RO Agde, a resident of Fédérale 1, to host Nuits-Saint-Georges in Béziers, at the Sauclières stadium last weekend. A match won by the Maritimes and which Robert Ménard, mayor of Béziers, partly attended.
The City mentions 240,000 euros of investment
On the subject of lighting, the municipality of Agde, through its deputy for sports Thierry Villa, reacted in a press release sent to the editorial staff on Monday, October 14. “It is worth noting that lighting the Millet stadium would require an investment of € 240,000 while only two or three matches per year take place at night", he says, without giving further details on the amount advanced.
Playing in Sanguin: a solution for Thierry Villa
Regarding the calendar and the few matches that need to be organized at night, we can also imagine that if the ROA had regulatory lighting, it could offer its opponents matches on Saturday evenings more often, like its football neighbors, which would perhaps attract more spectators.
In this respect, Thierry Villa nevertheless points out that “the city has the Louis-Sanguin stadium (where the RCO Agde football club plays, editor's note), which is equipped for this type of sporting event.”
Which the rugby leaders are probably aware of, but Sanguin was not available last weekend, Coupe de France requires, even if the 6th round was finally played away, and will not be on Saturday January 25th for the arrival of Villefranche-sur-Saône, Racing hosting Alès the same evening. Finally, playing in Sanguin will be possible on March 29th, for the reception of Nantua.
